Indigo Girls at The Highline Ballroom

Last Wednesday the Indigo Girls played an excellent show at The Highline Ballroom. The audience was ecstatic, singing along and screaming wildly between songs. Above you can see Amy Ray depicted as a hawk and Emily Saliers as a Koala Bear.

Lucy Wainwright Roche played a really beautiful opening set and was very funny in between songs. The Roches, featuring Lucy’s mother Suzzy Roche and Aunt’s Maggie and Terre Roche, played one spectacular song half way through the Indigo Girls’ set. Lucy returned towards the end, singing “Closer To Fine” with Emily and Amy.

Here is the epic set list:

And then on Thursday there were two Indigo Girls references on 30 Rock. Here’s the transcript:

JACK: But I am calling HR and getting you back for the next show.
LIZ: No! I just need a little more time off. I’m on humanity leave!
JACK: Good god, what Indigo Girls song is that from?
LIZ: “Syllabus of Us.” It’s off Vagabonds, Martyrs, and Quilts.

And then…

JACK: Believe me, there is no solace in their luxury, only deep despair.
LIZ: How do you know all these Indigo Girls songs?

It was quite an Indigo Girls week. For those of you not celebrating Bloomsday, Indigo Girls will be playing Central Park on June 16th. Lucy Wainwright Roche is playing at Joe’s Pub on June 20th.
