Oppenheimer at Death By Audio
Above is Belfast electro-pop band Oppenheimer playing in the Death Star’s trash compactor. Shaun Robinson (drums and vocals) is depicted as a corn crake and Rocky O’Reilly (guitar, keyboards, vocoder) is depicted as a blue raccoon.
They played Death By Audio last Thursday and Le Poisson Rouge (opening for They Might Be Giants) the Saturday before that. Death By Audio was a more exciting and eventful show. They told funny stories, patched in a friend from Northern Ireland to sing/scream a song and finished with Rocky jumping into the audience and play wrestling with their sound man. Good stuff!
Oppenheimer play pretty fantastic electro-dream pop with a shoe gaze feel. Below are two of my favorite of their songs.
M.O from Oppenheimer
Stephen McCauley For President from Take The Whole Midrange And Boost It
Oppenheimer’s next NY area show is on April 18th at Irving Plaza, opening for The Presidents Of The United States Of America (the band not the presidents).
As always, click on the image above to see it at full resolution.

that is a fabulous trash compactor!

Wait, they’re opening up for Presidents of the United States?! They’re still together and touring? When did this happen and where have I been? Well, at least they have good taste in opening acts.
Have you seen Oppenheimer live yet? I’ve been meaning to check them out but I’ve missed them everytime they’re in LA. They are going to be on the new Josh Schwartz web- series Rockville CA (http://www.rockvilleca.com/) which premieres tomorrow, the site will have two live video performances from the band available for streaming, no POTUS though… sadly.
