Rasputina at Maxwell’s

Here is Rasputina at a seance summoning the ghost of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The cockatoo in the center is Melora Creager who sings and plays cello. The grizzly bear to her right is Daniel De Jesus who also plays cello. And to her left is Catie D’amica who plays drums and is depicted as a cat. The real Rasputina can be seen here. The real Frank Lloyd Wright can be seen here.

Rasputina played an excellent show at Maxwell’s on November 21. They played an equally excellent show at The Hiro Ballroom on August 23rd of which I never got around to drawing a picture.

One could describe Rasputina’s sound as Victorian inspired electric cello rock music. If I were making a mix tape I would place them between songs from the Requiem For A Dream soundtrack and the first Mary Timony record. Also, Melora Creager, band founder and only permanent member, played with Nirvana on their In Utero tour. Here is a video (Melora shows up at the five minute mark, after the weird Italian comedy).

Here is the Rasputina song Cage In A Cave from their 2007 “concept” album Oh Perilous World.
